New Board Members Appointed to SaskCanola Board of Directors

Kelvin Meadows, Chair of the Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SaskCanola) announces the appointment of two new board members to the SaskCanola Board.

Terry Youzwa and Brett Halstead were unanimously appointed to the SaskCanola Board at the SaskCanola Annual General Meeting held on January 14, 2009 in Saskatoon.

Outgoing Board members, John Serhienko and Jim Caughlin were thanked by SaskCanola Chair, Kelvin Meadow, for their many contributions to both the Board and to industry committees on which they represented the Commission over the years.

Terry Youzwa comes to the Board with over 25 years of experience in agricultural management and is the President and CEO of Youkan Developments and Youzwa Farms Inc. He has served on numerous Boards and Councils including the former Agricore United as well as the Soil Conservation Council of Canada and Flax Council of Canada. Terry currently serves as an advisor to the Canadian Bioenergy Corporation. He and his wife Sandee and family reside in Nipawin. As part of his Board responsibilities, Terry will serve on the SaskCanola Marketing Development Committee and will represent the Commission on the Canola Council of Canada Board of Directors.

Brett Halstead and his family have a mixed farm operation in Nokomis, growing a variety of crops and managing a commercial cow/calf operation. Brett has served on several boards including the United Grain Growers, Agricore United, Canadian Canola Growers and Saskatchewan Canola Growers Association. He and his wife Myrna have three children including oldest daughter Amanda who is attending the University of Saskatchewan and is continuing the Halstead family interest in agriculture. As part of his Board responsibilities, Brett will serve as a member of the SaskCanola Executive Committee as well as the Research and Technical Committee and represent the Commission on the Western Canada Canola/Rapeseed Recommending Committee.
