News Release! Regulation Changes to Saskatchewan
Canola Development Plan
The Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission
(SaskCanola) has advanced a series of changes to the Commission's
regulations under The Saskatchewan Agri-Food Act, 2004,
in order to update and advance the province's canola industry.
"Our Board, initiated a review of the regulations
earlier this year, and the first set of changes to the Saskatchewan
Canola Development Plan Regulations, under The Agri-Food Act,
2004, have now been approved by the provincial government,"
Kelvin Meadows, Chair of the SaskCanola Board announced today.
"The changes, which are effective immediately,
clarify and define a producer's association and eligibility
with the Commission. As such, registered producers of the Commission
are now defined as those producers who have paid levies in the
last two years for which a refund was not requested. As well,
only registered producers will now be eligible to be nominated
to hold elected office as a member of the Commission's Board,
or be eligible to vote at SaskCanola annual general meetings,"
Meadows stated.
SaskCanola has already made its annual call for nominations
to the 2009 Board with nominations closing at noon on October
17, 2008.
"It is important that in light of the
regulation changes that those producers seeking a Board nomination
are aware that they must now be a registered producer, as defined
by the amended regulations, in order to seek a nomination,"
Meadows concluded.
Additional adjustments related to levy administration,
will occur over the next few months. Aspects of these changes
will be discussed with producers at the SaskCanola Annual General meeting
on January 14, 2009 prior to finalization and approvals.
