Canola Meal
Canola meal is one of the most widely used protein sources in animal feeds, and is also used in specialty diets around the world. Most countries that import canola seed mainly do so for the oil, and after crushing the seed a co-product is created called meal.
The bulk of Canada's canola meal exports supply the U.S. feed ingredient market which imports over a million tonnes annually and represents 80% or more of total meal exports. Asian countries like Japan, Taiwan and South Korea are also consistent markets for canola meal which is widely available and traded, usually sold in bulk form as a mash or in pellets.
A guide covering many aspects of Canola Meal has been created by the Canola Council of Canada, with support from SaskCanola. This guide can be downloaded below.
The topics covered include:
- Canola Meal Background and Market
- Processing
- Nutrient Composition
- Poultry Diets
- Pig Diets
- Cattle Diets
- Specialty Diets
- Economics of Feeding Canola Mean
- References
- Nutrient Composition Tables
Additionally, SaskCanola and the Canola Council of Canada developed a brochure which outlines the benefits of canola meal for the dairy industry.
