| Overview of SaskCanola
What is the Saskatchewan
Canola Development Commission?
The Saskatchewan Canola Development Commission (SaskCanola) was established
in 1991 to represent Saskatchewan's canola producers. Its mandate
is to enhance canola producers' competitiveness and profitability
through research, market development and extension activities.
Activities are funded through a Levy and administered by
a producer elected Board of Directors. The Board of Directors
consists of six canola producers. Elections are held annually
for two director positions.
Funding
A 75 cent ($0.75) per tonne Levy on Saskatchewan
produced canola is collected. Under provincial government legislation,
the Levy must be collected by buyers at the time of sale.
The buyers forward the Levy to the Saskatchewan Canola Development
Commission. Any change to the Levy level requires approval
at an annual general meeting following notification of all Saskatchewan
canola producers. The Levy is refundable upon request by
the producer.
Vision
Shaping canola's future for producer profitability.
Mission
To enhance canola producers competitiveness and profitability
through a producer led and controlled fund to support research,
market development and extension activities.
